The Climbing Majority

77 | My Last Episode w/ Max Carrier

Kyle Broxterman & Max Carrier Episode 77

Today marks a significant turning point for The Climbing Majority. After three years and 76 episodes, my co-host and partner, Max Carrier, has made the difficult decision to step away from the show to dedicate more time to his educational pursuits, mountaineering, and his personal goals. This episode is dedicated to Max—both in celebration of everything we’ve accomplished together and as a send-off as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.

We start by diving into Max’s current life as a full-time student and where he envisions his educational career taking him. We reflect on the moments that have defined our time as co-hosts and the meaning this partnership—and this podcast—has brought to both of us.

Finally we talk about one of Max’s greatest passions—mountaineering. Discussing his upcoming trip to Aconcagua and the excitement and challenges that come with such an ambitious objective.

As I take the helm of The Climbing Majority moving forward, I’m heading into uncharted territory. I won’t be bringing on another co-host—at least for now—and I plan to carry on what we’ve started, staying true to the core mission of this podcast: giving a larger voice to the majority. I’ve got some exciting interviews lined up in the coming weeks, and I’m eager to continue building this community and sharing the untold stories of climbers from around the world.

While I’m confident in the direction of the podcast, Max’s humor, reflections, and personality will be missed. He’s been a huge part of this journey, and I wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors, both personally and in the mountains.

leaving the stories of everyday climbers untold?

00;02;23;27 - 00;02;26;24
Speaker 1
What is.

00;02;26;24 - 00;02;33;13
Speaker 2
That?

00;02;33;15 - 00;02;57;08
Speaker 1
Yeah. It's always well. We moved recently, so Ray and I have moved, North Vancouver. So that's, like, new thing that's happened for us. Obviously, the old place, horseshoe Bay. We in the basement suite. And it was really, really small. So like, our kitchen was also our living room and everything. So we'd occasionally move some things around or usually like to record, you know, I'd like, move the couch and things out of the way.

00;02;57;08 - 00;03;19;00
Speaker 1
So it's, it's gone through a whole bunch of different iterations. And, now this is the, the newest version of the Casa here. So we got this, other kind of Sweden stuff, so take it. Yeah. That's awesome. It's really nice. So, we've just been here. I'm super close to school, and just been running tons and tons of trails and everything, so it's really awesome.

00;03;19;02 - 00;03;22;06
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;03;22;08 - 00;03;30;09
Speaker 1
Yeah. I think she's really, really excited. So it's, it's it's really awesome. It's a super nice place here. So we got a really amazing set up and everything.

00;03;30;12 - 00;03;33;26
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;03;33;28 - 00;03;55;13
Speaker 1
No massive, zero and price because we're living in her family basement, so it's amazing. Sort of like with the parents hanging out. They've got the upstairs. We're in the basement suite, so that's about as lucky as it possibly gets. And, my school is, like, two minutes away, and, yeah, Ray can commute to work and everything. And actually, her sister's in between jobs as well, too, so she's, like, living in the other room.

00;03;55;13 - 00;04;00;09
Speaker 1
So it's like the whole, like, kind of family's under the roof. Tiggers here, you know?

00;04;00;11 - 00;04;02;14
Speaker 2
So.

00;04;02;17 - 00;04;29;06
Speaker 1
Yeah, we were actually crazy worried about him because he's, like, ancient, you know, so he's like 20 years old, and probably for about like a month and a half leading up to the move, we were really concerned, like, oh, my God, this, this stress of moving this cat, he's going to, like, die or have a heart attack or so I was really concerned and ultimately we moved him and he just did not give a fuck.

00;04;29;09 - 00;04;31;14
Speaker 2
You know, like, didn't meow, didn't care.

00;04;31;15 - 00;04;54;09
Speaker 1
Got here. He's like super chilled out, really happy. So he's like really stoked. And he's completely just habituated. You know, he's got a spot on the couch that he goes to and everything. You know, it's a there's like there's like coyotes here and stuff. So like, it's, it's a little bit more if you like letting him out, which is a bit of a bummer, but like, we've, we're getting a system and stuff.

00;04;54;11 - 00;05;19;10
Speaker 1
Yeah. So, so that's been kind of interesting. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's anybody listening out there like some cat lovers. Maybe there's like a whole bunch of dog lovers who are, like, hating this part of the conversation. But, you know, I like dogs, I like cats, it's okay. But, Yeah, Tigger is just. He's so old, and he will do this thing where, like, from, like, 1 to 4 a.m., he would just persistently, like, meow and scream to go outside.

00;05;19;10 - 00;05;43;00
Speaker 1
He'd be like, wow. And he. And he will not stop. And so we've kind of found that we have to like, feed him, like keep him up throughout the day, like constantly wake him up. You know, if you get home at certain times and he's sleeping, it's like I'm like, I'm joking. It's like, obviously not the same thing as having a kid, but it's like it feels like there's like this Alzheimer's cat, just like screaming destined to make me not have, like, a good sleep ever again.

00;05;43;00 - 00;05;49;03
Speaker 1
So, Yeah, unfortunately, we love him to death, so, you know.

00;05;49;03 - 00;05;49;29
Speaker 2
It's,

00;05;50;01 - 00;06;18;26
Speaker 1
Make do with what you got, but, yeah, he's great. Oh, man. He's been doing this for a long time. He goes through phases, though, and if it's in the summer and he can just go out, like, freely, then it's fine. But he'll go through these phases where maybe I don't know what it is like coming into like fall or like winter, you know, and all of a sudden, boom, it's just like, hey, enjoy three weeks of, like, barely sleeping and, like, throwing socks at Tigger and being like, dude, please stop.

00;06;18;28 - 00;06;25;00
Speaker 1
So. But yeah, that's it. That's what it is. You know? 100%.

00;06;25;00 - 00;06;30;12
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah.

00;06;30;14 - 00;07;00;24
Speaker 1
It's good, man. I've got a good time. It's, really, really busy. But that's pretty good. I feel, you know, like, I feel incredibly privileged, obviously, to be able to, like, go to school and have this opportunity and stuff. And I really love it. I'm so passionate about what I'm studying. But there's also this thing where, you know, I, like I was a high school dropout, so, like, I didn't have, like a grade nine academic education, so like, and but I been 20, 20, I think I did like grade nine, ten, 11, 12.

00;07;01;01 - 00;07;20;11
Speaker 1
And then I went, you know, I was working part time, and now I'm going into my fourth year of school. So it's like five years, you know, going into my fifth year, hypothetically, of studying and, it's there's like some of it is a bit of a slog. It feels like, you know, to get through where you're like, oh, God, like another one of these assignments or this or that.

00;07;20;13 - 00;07;34;04
Speaker 1
I'm obviously feeling pretty, motivated to want to, like, get out and work and do things, so. But, but it's great. I'm still loving it.

00;07;34;07 - 00;07;49;13
Speaker 1
Yeah. So for the most part, like, I'm 30, like, most of the other people are like, you know, 20, 22, that kind of age range. There's a couple like middle of the range students and then, and I've made good friends with them and then like, a good buddy of mine as well. Devin, he's like 30 for like training to become a kinesiology.

00;07;49;17 - 00;08;15;08
Speaker 1
And so, you know, it's obviously you just I feel like coming like doing an undergrad at the age of 30. I have like a very like I don't like, you know, there's 20 year olds are way fucking smarter than me for sure. But like, it's like I have like a purpose. I know what I want in life. I have like various other the life experience that I kind of bring to the table, I think, and I think it also like allows me to connect with professors really, really well.

00;08;15;11 - 00;08;31;22
Speaker 1
So yeah, I think there's just like pros and cons, you know, like, there's no point in crying over spilled milk on some level. Do I wish, hey, I went into university at 18, was like 22 getting out with an undergrad. Yeah. But like, you know, such is life. And it's just like I'm just on a totally different journey, a different path.

00;08;31;22 - 00;08;51;17
Speaker 1
And I do feel like I'm getting a lot out of this coming back as, like a mature student being like, I'm going to go do this like I do. There's definitely so many things where I'm just there. I'm just like, wow, this is so amazing that I'm able to just like be here and learning. You know, it's really just it's like it's unbelievable to to just be able to have that opportunity.

00;08;51;17 - 00;08;52;23
Speaker 1
It's crazy. So.

00;08;52;27 - 00;09;00;20
Speaker 1
What's, like, in during the hard times? What is the vision like in your head that just, like, keeps you moving forward?

00;09;00;28 - 00;09;22;17
Speaker 1
Like at school in particular. I think right now I really, really want to go to grad school and actually do like some science. That's for me, like a specific, larger project that I'm really interested in. Not just like you have to, you know, meet X, Y and z requirement and do this and have somebody like choose the whole pathway in front of you.

00;09;22;17 - 00;09;46;29
Speaker 1
Like I feel once you go into grad school, like you actually have the opportunity to be like, I want to do this novel experiment, I want to do this thing, find a supervisor, someone who's going to mentor you. So, I think that really keeps me going. And and also just for myself, you know, I'm studying kinesiology, like human kinetics, all that kind of stuff.

00;09;47;01 - 00;10;07;08
Speaker 1
Everything you learn is just directly applicable on your body, like, instantly, you know, and so I am just still completely fascinated by that. Just, you know, I get to I go learn something and you're like, oh, that is so cool. That's awesome. Like, I can literally apply that to my training next week, or I didn't think of it like that, you know?

00;10;07;08 - 00;10;23;10
Speaker 1
So, I don't know, just still generally really, really fascinated and super stoked to be just like studying things about like how to optimize human health and performance and psychology and just, I don't know, it's completely fascinating. So that's really awesome.

00;10;23;10 - 00;10;32;24
Speaker 1
Would you say, like, your knowledge that you're acquired so far is more like if you were to choose one, is it more towards, like, training now or like PT and like, post rehab?

00;10;34;05 - 00;10;34;21
Speaker 2
I think for.

00;10;34;21 - 00;10;57;17
Speaker 1
The vast majority of it, it's really like a lot of just bass meat and potatoes. It's much less like applied, and much more of like, here's this, like massive foundation that you need to know. And then if you want to go on and start specializing into things, you'll have that, that background to be able to do that, if that makes sense.

00;10;57;19 - 00;11;06;07
Speaker 1
So.

00;11;06;09 - 00;11;27;26
Speaker 1
Absolutely. For sure. Yeah. And I mean, I've recently been working as well with this, it's like an apprenticeship and they're like a strength and power facility. And so I've been working, with them. There's a really great team there. You know, shout out to, like, Sean Max noz and, Matt, there's these really great, individuals and, just been learning the more applied thing.

00;11;27;26 - 00;11;55;05
Speaker 1
Right. And it's really interesting to, like, learn something, but then the nuance of actually being able to communicate the, the, communicate the information to somebody like, that's, that's a completely different skill set. And I think it's like, you know, like, for example, in university, you get things where there's teachers who are amazing academics and so smart or researchers, but they're not good teachers because it's like it's not just about being like, really smart.

00;11;55;06 - 00;12;12;06
Speaker 1
You have to be super relatable and you have to be able to convey information, you know, like in good ways. Like, yeah, if it was like the smartest people you'd find, like some super weird person with like 150 IQ talks, you're like a robot and you'd be like, yeah, I'm obviously gonna learn nothing from you, you know? So.

00;12;12;09 - 00;12;13;11
Speaker 2
But,

00;12;13;14 - 00;12;36;23
Speaker 1
But yeah. So it's been interesting to like, kind of go do that and then just, also just like work with people because that's a huge thing as well too. It's just being really personal, you know, like like you have to be likable, you know, like if you're not able to like, deal with people day in and day out and have good conversations and just be somebody who like, people feel supported by then it doesn't matter if you have all the knowledge of the world, you know, you just kind of suck to be around.

00;12;36;23 - 00;12;42;03
Speaker 2
So it's like, it's like, good luck with that, right? So yeah.

00;12;42;03 - 00;12;55;00
Speaker 1
Do you see yourself being like, in the academic space or more like, applied knowledge, like, like helping people through their own personal journeys, whether it be through, another company or maybe something you set up yourself.

00;12;55;12 - 00;13;27;18
Speaker 1
Yeah, that's a really good question. I honestly have so many visions of what I'd like to do. And it's sometimes a little confusing. I think it would be an amalgamation. So I think ultimately, I'd love to have either some kind of an academic role, whether that be like in research or teaching, and then be able to, like apply the skills on the side both in my own training and also maybe like having a couple clients I coach or personal training on the side.

00;13;27;18 - 00;13;51;12
Speaker 1
So I think having like an amalgamation of that would be great. I'm also kind of interested in, medical sales, something I'd be, you know, like, I think there's a lot of taboo for that for people, but like, I have, like, a friend who, who does that and, you know, just being able to, you know, offer services and goods or products that help people in, like, operating rooms are really interesting technologies.

00;13;51;17 - 00;14;10;10
Speaker 1
And you get to kind of like, be there, you know, like in operating rooms and like, help promote products or like, advise on how to use the products and stuff. That also is really, really interesting to me. But the ultimate answer is, I don't know, but it's like it's somewhere in that sphere mixing those kind of things I'm really passionate about.

00;14;10;10 - 00;14;27;12
Speaker 1
I think I'd have a lot of fun doing any of those things. And so, it's just, you know, getting getting down to, to actually getting a position in one of those things in the end of the day.

00;14;27;15 - 00;14;42;09
Speaker 1
Yeah. So I'd have one more year, I'd graduate, and then ideally I'd be going to grad school in 2026 if, you know, like fingers crossed all things go perfect and everything like that. So, yeah, that's that's kind of the general, the general sense of things.

00;14;42;09 - 00;14;46;06
Speaker 2
So yeah. Yeah.

00;14;46;06 - 00;14;53;23
Speaker 1
goes, man. You got, you've been working your ass off, so, you know, that never goes unnoticed in reference to the universe. So I'm sure it'll all come

00;14;54;10 - 00;15;13;26
Speaker 1
Yeah. No, I appreciate it, man. So, Yeah, it's been good. It's been fun even right now. You know, Ray and I, we actually just had a call with, Austin the other evening. A call, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So we were, talking with him. He's going down to Aconcagua. We're going to go to Austin Conghua, so we're actually going to overlap on the mountain.

00;15;14;03 - 00;15;32;07
Speaker 1
So we're really hoping to, run into him down there. But, you know, we're just we're just picking up all the beta from his brain because he's obviously got the veteran adventurer group and all this stuff. So, down to a science, you know, he's pulling out these, like, crazy Excel spreadsheets and all this stuff, and it's so much information.

00;15;32;07 - 00;15;48;23
Speaker 1
And he's, like, offered to, like, he just like Open door was was so forthcoming with information is really awesome. Took like a whole evening with us. So it was it was really, really awesome. It was great to like, you know, obviously with digital, but like, see him like, have a chat with him. Haven't seen him since the gnarly.

00;15;48;25 - 00;16;04;02
Speaker 1
But yeah. So, you know, like we're going to we just finalized our trip for that and I'm going to go down there and climb that as well too, which will be really, really fun and just a good time. So but it's been busy.

00;16;04;04 - 00;16;05;29
Speaker 1
No, that's, I'll put mayo.

00;16;05;29 - 00;16;06;19
Speaker 2
So.

00;16;06;21 - 00;16;20;05
Speaker 1
Yeah, we do want, mayo. My way is like my whatever else. Salado I said with the hard wrath. Like, don't leave pronunciations to me. Just assume I'm wrong. Anybody listening? You know, carte blanche. I'm. Whatever.

00;16;20;08 - 00;16;21;00
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;16;21;03 - 00;16;45;11
Speaker 1
Mayo sounds better. It sounds more authentic. So I've no idea. But all the mayo seems so beautiful. Yeah, that's, that's on the list. I want to climb that. But yeah, no, I can. Cog was very non-technical mountain, right? So 60, 940m, I believe. It's, like, on the border, kind of Argentina. Chile. We fly into Mendoza.

00;16;45;14 - 00;17;08;15
Speaker 1
And then, Yeah, it's we're doing this thing called the 360 route, so you can kind of shuttle all the way around the mountain. So that'll be really cool. There's, like, it's not technical. The route we're doing at least is like, it's it's not technical. It's just, this massive aerobic, you know, bump and, and, really high, like 60 900m.

00;17;08;15 - 00;17;33;11
Speaker 1
I've never been that high. It's not to be joked with you can, you know, it's very serious, I think. And so we're training really, really hard and then hoping to go down there and just have a really good time and ideally spend about a month on the mountain. And, and I'm hoping in my overly ambitious state to like, be able to stay up there high and climb and like summit a couple times and maybe do a couple different routes up there and then go down the 360 route.

00;17;33;11 - 00;17;43;00
Speaker 1
So we go up the valley, one side to the peak summit. It's been like a couple of weeks high up doing our stuff and then going down the other side and to the other side of the valley.

00;17;43;00 - 00;17;48;03
Speaker 2
So yeah. Yeah. No, I think.

00;17;48;03 - 00;17;52;22
Speaker 1
One side of the mountains is like a like like a legit, like face of climbing, super.

00;17;52;22 - 00;17;54;04
Speaker 2
Technical. So yeah.

00;17;54;04 - 00;17;58;00
Speaker 1
You could try that one Jason. Go see how that goes.

00;17;58;03 - 00;18;00;27
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;18;00;29 - 00;18;19;12
Speaker 1
Yeah, it's it's pretty exciting. So. Yeah. It's been, it's I've been getting into running a whole bunch lately, so it's been good. It's been really fun to just run and feel really good. I actually, I'll have to send you a photo of it. I got these shoes. New balance makes them. They're called, like, fresh foam.

00;18;19;12 - 00;18;39;11
Speaker 1
XlVi. I think, or something. I'll send you a picture of them, but they. There's just, like, a really cushy foam, and it's a lot. So it's like, not a great technical shoe. You know, if you were, like, really hard technical terrain and like, running super fast for like a really fast and light runner, I don't think this would be the best, like running shoe for a lot of people who are listening.

00;18;39;13 - 00;18;58;20
Speaker 1
But if you're a larger dude, particularly you have ankle injuries. This shoe went from like taking me like running at like a constant, like six out of ten pain to like a 4 or 3. It just like it was just like knocked a huge amount of my pain, like right off, just like that. And, yeah, it's been a huge difference.

00;18;58;20 - 00;19;12;05
Speaker 1
I've been able to actually run a whole bunch and I'm feeling really great. So I don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll send you a picture.

00;19;12;07 - 00;19;13;29
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah. And your.

00;19;13;29 - 00;19;18;06
Speaker 1
Exploded calcaneus.

00;19;18;06 - 00;19;24;19
Speaker 1
even today, it's just really sore. Like, if I go out climbing or if I go out hiking, I'm good in the moment. But then, like, the next day or that

00;19;26;25 - 00;19;38;03
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;19;38;05 - 00;19;43;29
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;19;44;01 - 00;19;47;09
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;19;47;11 - 00;19;56;00
Speaker 1
Long, hard and dark is the road of, lifelong Pete, my friend. I think you're like, level four of Dante's Inferno.

00;19;56;00 - 00;19;58;12
Speaker 2
And I, unfortunately, you're gonna have to go.

00;19;58;12 - 00;20;01;15
Speaker 1
Look at some knees over toes videos and.

00;20;01;17 - 00;20;06;04
Speaker 2
Find.

00;20;06;07 - 00;20;09;26
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;20;09;28 - 00;20;14;21
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;20;14;24 - 00;20;20;13
Speaker 1
Some dude at some arthritis company is just, like, salivating looking at the podcast.

00;20;20;15 - 00;20;32;08
Speaker 2
He's, like, so much trauma for broken ankles. Like.

00;20;32;11 - 00;20;32;27
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;20;33;04 - 00;20;39;02
Speaker 1
They're just waiting for, like, the splurge.

00;20;39;05 - 00;20;57;23
Speaker 1
Yeah. You get, like, toe separators and some balance board and, like, all this stuff that you use for two weeks and then just completely stop using it for, like, ten years, and it'll just sit in your closet. That's how you're supposed to rehab. Everyone listening. You're really hard out the gate, and then you just decide it's not for you.

00;20;57;26 - 00;21;14;11
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah.

00;21;14;13 - 00;21;18;03
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;21;18;06 - 00;21;39;29
Speaker 1
Yeah. It's, It's definitely. This is, a postmortem, you know, like, Yeah. I mean, you know, to anybody listening, I am going to be, you know, leaving the show. So that's kind of we're sitting down, just talking, having a good time here, and, yeah, that is, that's the purpose of this, you know, a little episode, this mini announcement here.

00;21;40;02 - 00;21;42;20
Speaker 1
So, yeah, it's been a good run.

00;21;46;03 - 00;21;57;28
Speaker 1
we had. Like, I was so busted up in my wheelchair still. And I remember being, in my house, dude, just, like, fucking on the ground with my casts double casts up in

00;21;58;28 - 00;22;08;16
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

00;22;43;18 - 00;23;12;29
Speaker 1
Yeah. Yeah. Man, it's been a crazy ride, you know? January oh, 30. That's, meet the Creators, episode one, 2022. So. And we probably started talking. Well, I don't know, like August, maybe August, September or something of the of 2021. So yeah, we're pretty much like bang on like three years, you know, from like happening out and our injuries and everything and, yeah, it's, it's really crazy to even just think of that time period.

00;23;12;29 - 00;23;43;09
Speaker 1
It's Covid lockdowns being mangled from injuries starting this for me, like just going through school and trying to navigate things. It really has been this very interesting, very wild ride. You know, and yeah. What is it, 76 episodes in, you know, three years. Yeah. It's, it's pretty crazy. It's really it's really interesting and just, so many people along the way, you know, like, I've got a whole list here where I rode.

00;23;43;09 - 00;24;09;04
Speaker 1
It was like, it's just says, friends most important. And it's like, you know, I've got, like, you, Callum, Quinn, Turner, Harvey, Phillip, you know, Alex. Mitch. Go. Austin. Like miles, like, you know, there's lots of other people, of course, like, on this list from, like, you know, episodes we've done and stuff, but like those, those people I've, like, legitimately like, met and had relationships with and climbed and like, continue as contact with them.

00;24;09;06 - 00;24;35;25
Speaker 1
It's been really interesting to have this kind of this, this project that started in this digital sphere. You know, and, actually evolved itself, like out into the real world, making some really, really meaningful connections. And, yeah, it's it's really interesting. It's, there's something really, like, heartfelt, really meaningful about it. So,

00;24;35;27 - 00;24;43;17
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah.

00;24;43;17 - 00;24;52;20
Speaker 1
and and like, so that, like, that was all of us together. And then Nathan and Landon McDowell

00;24;53;03 - 00;24;54;03
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;24;54;05 - 00;24;55;16
Speaker 1
I know.

00;24;55;18 - 00;24;58;02
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;25;20;00 - 00;25;45;16
Speaker 1
Yeah. Super cool. I actually, I saw Mary Eden this summer in Squamish. Yeah, we had this really cool crag called, like Highlander, which has, like, for me, like burly, like overhanging, like maybe 11 BC, like, you know, splitter cracks. And, I was just, like, struggling so hard on top rope on this thing, like dying. And I was there with Quinn, actually, and, his partner, and then, Callum as well, actually.

00;25;45;16 - 00;25;51;24
Speaker 1
So there you go. Three people from the show, and then Mary shows up. The fourth person from the show, everybody. She's climbing Squamish.

00;25;51;26 - 00;25;53;10
Speaker 2
But, Yeah.

00;25;53;13 - 00;26;05;07
Speaker 1
Kirsten, like Quinn's partner, she was just like. Like Mary went and jumped on the climb that we had all done, like, previously. And in this thing, like, it's like a 11 c overhanging, like hand crag. It's really burly, you know?

00;26;05;07 - 00;26;07;09
Speaker 2
Like and like. Yeah.

00;26;07;09 - 00;26;25;27
Speaker 1
Trad. And and Mary just like, climbs. It's like goes into the cracks and then just like turns around and proceeds to have like, like a 3 or 4 minute conversation with me, like on the lead, just like hanging out in the cracks, just like talking, like we're just having. She was like. It was like, really like not even a warm up, you know?

00;26;26;04 - 00;26;27;09
Speaker 2
And and.

00;26;27;12 - 00;26;29;20
Speaker 1
Like, when we were walking back and just like.

00;26;29;23 - 00;26;33;11
Speaker 2
The fuck, like, who was that? Like, is that person just stopped and had, like.

00;26;33;11 - 00;26;35;13
Speaker 1
A five minute conversation in the middle of the.

00;26;35;13 - 00;26;35;25
Speaker 2
Crux?

00;26;36;02 - 00;26;41;03
Speaker 1
I was like, yeah, that's like a very even like a, you know, like crazy legit pro.

00;26;41;07 - 00;26;44;24
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah. Like, yeah.

00;26;44;24 - 00;26;48;27
Speaker 1
You just looked at Pete like human performance in action.

00;26;49;04 - 00;26;51;00
Speaker 2
You know, it was like.

00;26;51;03 - 00;27;07;27
Speaker 1
Yeah. So that that was that was funny to to just, by chance run into her as well as was pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. There was a whole group of them who had Rick Road tripped up to Squamish for the, for the summer and stuff. Just doing a trip there. And that was. I thought she'd been here before, but apparently this her first time actually here.

00;27;07;27 - 00;27;15;27
Speaker 1
So I think they climbed a whole bunch of awesome stuff.

00;27;15;29 - 00;27;26;24
Speaker 1
We don't really talk too much about the podcast. Yeah, we just like, shot, you know, there's a little bit talk. There's a whole bunch of people and everything. So. But yeah, it was it was great to see her. So.

00;27;26;27 - 00;27;30;09
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;27;30;09 - 00;27;37;11
Speaker 1
mean, one thing I've, I think I've learned and I'm still just, like, barely scratching the surface here is just like how tight the climbing community kind

00;27;46;06 - 00;27;47;12
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;27;47;14 - 00;28;15;25
Speaker 1
Yeah, I, I don't know, there is just this, like, deep, meaningful connection you can have with people. I would obviously like where emphasis is in the climbing community, but I think the outdoor community in general, there's just something about appreciating like the, the beauty of the world and also so like human beings capability to just absolutely grit it out and suffer to like, do really cool things in those environments.

00;28;15;25 - 00;28;37;11
Speaker 1
And I think, like just in general, when you meet somebody in that community, you just kind of have this instant connection with them because it's just, you know, and I know, you know, like what it's like to just like, grit my teeth and like, you know, suffer and subject myself to like, tons and tons of pain to just spend some really great time in these environments.

00;28;37;13 - 00;29;03;06
Speaker 1
And, I don't know, I just find there's something like I just instantly feel connected with these people and they're, they're usually I don't want to like, you know, homogenize or just paint the entire community with one brush because we have a very diverse community of people and thought and, you know, all these different things. But, yeah, they're just, I don't know, I just I do feel like, you know, these connections I made with these people, just like, it's like carte blanche.

00;29;03;06 - 00;29;14;03
Speaker 1
Any time you're in an area, call me. You need help, you need beta. You need anything? Just like open door policy, you know? And it's, it's been really great to see, and. Yeah, like, you know, you already mentioned it. Like, Kyle's.

00;29;14;03 - 00;29;15;14
Speaker 2
Like, you know, we just.

00;29;15;18 - 00;29;32;21
Speaker 1
Went down and, like, slept in Milo's living room for like, seven days. Had, like, the greatest time ever climbing, just shooting the shit, smashing balls, ice cream with that guy, like, in the evening, like, you know, like we just had such a phenomenal time down there. It's a beautiful place. You so nice. And we just had a great time.

00;29;32;21 - 00;29;50;10
Speaker 1
Like, I'm planning on going back then. Like I'm going to make my ideally an annual pilgrimage there. It's, it's just such a great place. And he's a rad dude. So yeah, it's it's just, I don't know, it makes me happy to just think about that. Like just the connections made through this show. Yeah. Feel great.

00;29;50;10 - 00;30;02;05
Speaker 1
Man. Yeah. It's, It's been a huge blessing to myself as well. Just. It's like people that you would never think that you would ever have a conversation with. It's just like, hey, what's up dude? Hey, I'm in

00;30;04;28 - 00;30;17;07
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;30;17;09 - 00;30;19;28
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah.

00;30;20;00 - 00;30;49;14
Speaker 1
I think, another one that I actually thought was kind of cool for me. One of, like, the main things that really got me psyched on, like, climbing and also like, my interest in, like, kinesiology in general was, you know, training for the new albinism by, you know, Scott and Steve House and, so, like, Scott quite literally like, was like one of my idols in, like, the climbing community, his story, the coaching, all of these things.

00;30;49;14 - 00;31;21;15
Speaker 1
And so, you know, to be able to have him on the show and interview him for me was, also just something that felt really, really, really special. Meaningful was like, you know, I went from this horrible injury, you know, like, also like, my mother recently passed away and stuff, and, going from that to, like, this connection with you, to, like, building out this show, to then like having someone who I could kind of idolize who, like, actually, like, motivated me to really get into endurance and training and human performance.

00;31;21;17 - 00;31;36;10
Speaker 1
And to be able to, like, have a person and, like, have a conversation with them. It's just really cool, you know, for like a small amount of time and felt very, very awesome. So it was, it was really that, that I, I also deeply appreciate. So thanks, Scott. If you're ever listening.

00;31;36;12 - 00;31;39;07
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah.

00;31;39;07 - 00;31;46;07
Speaker 1
yeah. It's going to be, It's going to be a void to fill. You know, I'm still navigating how I'm going to try to

00;31;49;06 - 00;32;00;10
Speaker 1
Yeah, man. Well, I'm rooting for you.

00;32;00;13 - 00;32;02;14
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;32;24;17 - 00;32;25;28
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;32;26;00 - 00;32;43;10
Speaker 1
Yeah, man. Well, dude, I'm. I'm in your corner, you know, run for. Yeah. You know, all the best. I don't know, maybe you have to get, like, yeah, I yeah, it's like someone else's to stage and or something, you know? Do you have a new cat? Do you have a new cat yet?

00;32;43;13 - 00;32;48;08
Speaker 1
Beans. Yeah. Okay. Sorry. That was it. Yeah, yeah. You need to get. You can just get beans to co-host with you for.

00;32;48;08 - 00;33;02;10
Speaker 2
A little bit.

00;33;02;12 - 00;33;03;04
Speaker 2
That's,

00;33;03;06 - 00;33;07;19
Speaker 1
Honestly kind of fucking creepy, but, like, really cool.

00;33;07;21 - 00;33;08;20
Speaker 2
It's just crazy.

00;33;08;20 - 00;33;17;00
Speaker 1
That that is so easy to do at this point. And just. You could just deepfake the shit out of me and just. Just have me here.

00;33;17;03 - 00;33;19;18
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;33;19;20 - 00;33;21;09
Speaker 1
Afterwards. Yeah. Like post.

00;33;21;09 - 00;33;28;05
Speaker 2
Post. Yeah. Production.

00;33;28;07 - 00;33;30;06
Speaker 2
Yeah. I leave you just like.

00;33;30;06 - 00;33;37;29
Speaker 1
I mean, make me a huge dick.

00;33;39;05 - 00;33;48;21
Speaker 1
man. I mean, I mean, honestly, the topic of like, I mean, another co-host has, you know, come up, but honestly, I don't feel like for one way too soon.

00;33;49;06 - 00;33;50;21
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;33;50;23 - 00;33;57;22
Speaker 1
Shucks, I appreciate it, man.

00;33;57;25 - 00;33;59;25
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;34;20;21 - 00;34;22;12
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;34;22;12 - 00;34;26;12
Speaker 1
by myself and, and just kind of see what that turns into.

00;34;26;22 - 00;34;27;21
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah.

00;34;27;23 - 00;34;51;07
Speaker 1
No. Totally fair. Man. Yeah. Well, I mean, I guess something as well. I just like to say, you know, obviously, just to any of the guests who came on the show, there's just such a list here. But, yeah, like, truly thank you to everybody who, like, gave their time and shared their stories. And, Yeah, I just feel like I had deep, meaningful connections and had the opportunity to just learn from these people and their conversations.

00;34;51;10 - 00;35;17;15
Speaker 1
Truly, that is something that I find so amazing out of this show. I had so many deep, meaningful conversations with people that I never would have met and I never would have talked to you. And I do feel I learned a lot in them, in just tons of ways, like emotionally, spiritually, actually learning things, hearing people and their loss or their best moments.

00;35;17;17 - 00;35;34;17
Speaker 1
I think that's something that I'd just like to, to emphasize. Just a big thanks to every one of them. And then also just anybody, you know, stuck around and listened to me. Yeah. I really appreciate it. And, appreciate your time and just, and taking the time to listen to these stories and and listen to us just chat around here.

00;35;34;24 - 00;36;03;21
Speaker 1
It's, it truly means a lot. And I think I'd be, I'd be truly missed here if I didn't just say one last thing, which is, you know, throughout this entire process, I've been having the opportunity to, like, train, live and climb, with the love of my life, who is, Rei. And, you know, she's been pretty much my number one supporter the entire time, just in the background, you know, helping me edit, listening to me rant, shooting off ideas.

00;36;03;23 - 00;36;21;26
Speaker 1
So, you know, she's really just been this, like, kind of rock in the background for anybody who doesn't know, there is a lot of her in this show as well, too. So yeah, thank you to her as well for, for just being the better half.

00;36;21;28 - 00;36;24;08
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;36;24;08 - 00;36;34;20
Speaker 1
chapter for the podcast. A bit of unknown, but, we're going to. We're going to try to do, our best over here and see what happens. And.

00;36;36;07 - 00;36;54;25
Speaker 1
Yeah, I don't know. It's just been such a cool, cool journey and growth up to this point. Man, I really appreciate everything that you've brought to the table and the foundation that we've built together. And it's been I don't know, it's really cool, man. It's like a it's really niche podcast and it's really something special. And we've gotten a lot of responses, you know, positive feedback and stuff.

00;36;54;25 - 00;37;12;16
Speaker 1
And, yeah, I just I'm grateful for everything you've done for the show and all the effort and time. Three years, just like, you know, building this platform. It's it's a lot of a lot of effort and a lot of time and everything. So I just appreciate I appreciate all that because, you know, we wouldn't we wouldn't be here without

00;37;14;03 - 00;37;15;18
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;37;15;20 - 00;37;31;15
Speaker 1
Yeah. No, I appreciate it, man. And, you know, I've, I've had a lot of good times with you. I've learned a lot from you, man. You know, and, it's it's been fun. So, Yeah. You know, likewise. Dude, like, it's great. We're obviously going to be in contact and stuff. We're still going to climb together and everything.

00;37;31;22 - 00;37;45;13
Speaker 1
But, you know, for this chapter right now, the book is, is closing and, yeah, you know, it's it.

00;37;45;16 - 00;37;46;16
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;37;46;18 - 00;37;50;07
Speaker 1
I think Quinn's trying to get me down to Red Rock. So.

00;37;50;10 - 00;37;51;20
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;37;51;22 - 00;37;53;25
Speaker 1
We'll we'll see when that's happening, though. Definitely not.

00;37;53;25 - 00;38;00;19
Speaker 2
This year. Yeah. Yeah.

00;38;00;22 - 00;38;10;02
Speaker 1
Yeah, yeah, I think, the only regret I have for this show is that I wish taker got a whole bunch more cameos than he did, but.

00;38;10;04 - 00;38;12;07
Speaker 2
You know, I. Yeah.

00;38;12;10 - 00;38;28;27
Speaker 1
Maybe I'll go grab him if he's around, I guess. Yeah, I can, I he can be like a subheading under my thanks to Ray because Tiggs has literally been in the background of pretty much every single episode filmed here. Although he has been completely useless.

00;38;29;00 - 00;38;29;25
Speaker 2
Yeah. Here.

00;38;29;29 - 00;38;32;29
Speaker 1
Do you want me to go get him? Let's see. I don't know, he might be sleeping. Give me one sack.

00;38;32;29 - 00;38;35;07
Speaker 2
You're,

00;38;52;16 - 00;38;55;16
Speaker 2
Gigi's. You're going to give us a meow, buddy? No. You're just super.

00;38;55;16 - 00;38;55;29
Speaker 1
Tired or.

00;38;56;00 - 00;38;57;29
Speaker 2
Asleep and having a good time, but.

00;38;58;02 - 00;39;02;14
Speaker 1
All right, there we go. There's a cameo, buddy.

00;39;05;17 - 00;39;11;12
Speaker 1
We're joking now because he's eating hard food and he's, like, gaining weight. So we're like. He's like Benjamin buttoning. He's like reverse.

00;39;11;12 - 00;39;14;19
Speaker 2
Aging. He's like. He's like, literally 20. This is a.

00;39;14;19 - 00;39;24;24
Speaker 1
20 year old cat. He's like jumping off of counters, moving around, going outside. It's like, I don't know what's going on, man. There's there's something in the water. But, yeah, he's he's doing great, man.

00;39;24;24 - 00;39;27;27
Speaker 2
Yeah, exactly. He's like literally 900.

00;39;27;28 - 00;39;31;10
Speaker 1
Just like walking around, living his best life. So good for.

00;39;31;10 - 00;39;36;12
Speaker 2
Him. Yeah.

00;39;36;14 - 00;39;41;21
Speaker 2
I know, yeah, we've we've thought about it. I know, yeah, you know.

00;39;41;23 - 00;39;50;28
Speaker 1
All great things come to an end.

00;39;51;00 - 00;40;10;01
Speaker 1
That's it, man. You know, I tried to. I've been trying to run, like, 100km a week and just studying and. Yeah, so it's like I'm just waking up at, like, five, 4 a.m., going on runs, going to school, going on runs in the p m. We're training all the time. We're working out. Yeah. It's just training my ass off.

00;40;10;01 - 00;40;29;27
Speaker 1
On top of studying and then doing that apprenticeship. So not like a huge amount, you know? Yeah. It's like, that's it. I just get into the routine of that and, you know, we still find our time, watch some some good movies, eat some nice dinners, do some casual things. But yeah, it's, training and school and all that kind of stuff and just move on.

00;40;29;28 - 00;40;39;24
Speaker 1
Dream cooking. That's it's just all consuming for, like, a time period leading into something like that.

00;40;39;27 - 00;40;42;11
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;40;42;11 - 00;41;02;19
Speaker 1
So. But that's it, man. That's the near future. I mean, I'm pretty happy with it, honestly, I, I do enjoy the process. I don't think it's like, sustainable for, like the next, like ten years of my life or anything, you know? But for right now, I do really enjoy it. I think long term, you know, Ray and I would like to try and climb up mayo, maybe go back to Denali.

00;41;02;21 - 00;41;21;14
Speaker 1
I definitely have a pipe dream of trying to go to an 8000 meter peak. I don't know. You know, if it happens, great. I'm not going to try and force it. And, I'm definitely, you know, I think, ideally my my goal would be to have, kids with Ray one day and, Yeah, that's a good question.

00;41;21;14 - 00;41;24;06
Speaker 1
Exactly. Right. But climbing some of these things pretty quick.

00;41;25;22 - 00;41;42;29
Speaker 1
You know, like that obviously would take precedent over, you know, going off and climbing some of these peaks. So, and that's okay, because there's so many things I, I've been joking. I'm like, yeah, I think if I become a dad, I'm just going to like try and climb 513 or something because like, I feel like you can just like hang board in the garage and go like sport climb all summer.

00;41;42;29 - 00;41;44;28
Speaker 1
So like, that's like pretty reasonable.

00;41;45;01 - 00;41;46;04
Speaker 2
Yeah. You can go.

00;41;46;04 - 00;41;48;29
Speaker 1
To the crag, you can do pull ups, like, that's like pretty reasonable.

00;41;49;06 - 00;41;52;13
Speaker 1
Do you guys have, like, a loose timeline for when she wants that to happen?

00;41;52;13 - 00;42;01;29
Speaker 1
yeah, unfortunately, you know, biology is a thing and that that's going to, that's going to be a thing. So but yeah. You know.

00;42;02;01 - 00;42;02;10
Speaker 2
Yeah.

00;42;02;17 - 00;42;04;03
Speaker 1
I'll find that out.

00;42;04;06 - 00;42;17;11
Speaker 2
Yeah. You know. Yeah, I yeah. Yeah.

00;42;17;13 - 00;42;26;29
Speaker 1
Oh you're now you're you're so good dude for sure. One dude. Lance. Lance did the tour de France with one man. And you're good. You can.

00;42;28;13 - 00;42;30;27
Speaker 1
None but a lot of EPO and cortisol.

00;42;30;27 - 00;42;35;05
Speaker 2
So. Yeah.

00;42;35;05 - 00;42;47;14
Speaker 1
Is there I know you kind of. I mean, I can, like, edit this, but is there any, like, I know you already kind of talk to the audience at all, but is there any, like, last final message or anything you want to kind of close out this, episode with kind of like talking to them or.

00;42;47;20 - 00;42;50;00
Speaker 2
Honestly, I think we covered most of stuff. It's been.
